MAINCODE is driven by a powerful team coming from six diverse partners from across Europe.
MAINCODE has been funded by the Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (MUR), the Innovation Fund of Denmark (IFD), and General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) under the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership which has been co-funded by the European Commission. MAINCODE runs from 2025 to 2027
Politecnico di Torino (POLITO) is one of the top technical universities in Europe, known for its transdisciplinary research at the interface of cities and academia in urban sustainability. POLITO is the MAINCODE coordinator and leads the theoretical background and conceptualization of urban climate shelters, as well as the testing and validation of the MAINCODE methodology for their implementation, replication, and upscaling across Europe. Additionally, POLITO supports the DUT Knowledge Hub by coordinating scientific dissemination and outreaching activities.
Urban Lab Torino (ULAB) is a non-profit association founded in 2005 by the City of Turin and Compagnia di San Paolo bank foundation. ULAB’s mission is to narrate the transformation of Turin and its metropolitan area, creating a space where economic, social and cultural players can discuss and actively participate in Turin’s ongoing transformation. ULAB supports the transformation of urban climate shelters in the selected Turin schoolyard, leading the co-design process of MAINCODE Future Workshops and providing toolkits for schools and children.
The City of Halandri is the largest municipality in the North Athens Regional Unit of Attica and, following the economic crisis, has developed recovery policies focused on revitalizing the local economy while increasingly paying attention to environmental conditions. The Halandri’s role in MAINCODE is to support the implementation of urban climate shelters in a selected city school, contributing to the transformation and facilitating the upscaling process.
The City of Turin is the fourth largest city in Italy and it has been following a path that has transformed it from an industrial capital into a hub of innovation and culture since the 1990’s. Turin has been recognised as one of the 100 climate-neutral and smart cities, and is now actively shaping its sustainable and resilient future toward 2030. The Turin’s role in MAINCODE is to support the implementation of urban climate shelters in a selected city school, contributing to the transformation and facilitating the upscaling process.
