On June 2nd, the MAINCODE project officially kicked off in Halandri, Greece. Hosted at the Municipal Council Hall, the Local Opening Event marked the beginning of a collaborative journey toward more resilient and nature-based schoolyards. Organised by Commonspace Coop and the Municipality of Halandri, we presented the project’s goals, methodology, and upcoming participatory activities, starting with the co-design of the first Urban Climate Shelter in a local schoolyard during the 2025 – 2026 school year. Together with local stakeholders, we explored how extreme climate events affect Halandri’s public schools and mapped shared experiences with the local community.
MAINCODE has been funded by the Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (MUR), the Innovation Fund of Denmark (IFD), and General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI) under the Driving Urban Transitions Partnership which has been co-funded by the European Commission. MAINCODE runs from 2025 to 2027
