MAINCODE Co-Design Workshops with Children at the 4th and 10th Primary Schools and Kindergartens of Halandri

From March to May 2026, pupils from the 4th and 10th Primary Schools and Kindergartens of Halandri participate in a series of co-design workshops within the framework of the MAINCODE project. Through co-design activities, the children explore issues related to climate change, the importance of greening schoolyards, and the transformation of their shared schoolyard into a future climate shelter. Using mapping exercises, floor plans, aerial images, questionnaires, and three-dimensional models, the participants identify the positive and negative aspects of the existing schoolyard and develop proposals for its redesign. Their ideas focus on increasing greenery, creating multifunctional play and sports areas, integrating water elements, improving accessibility, supporting outdoor learning, and providing spaces for social interaction and care for neighbourhood animals. The workshops encourage teamwork, creativity, and active participation, while the outcomes contribute to the development of a unified architectural proposal for the future climate shelter of the school complex.
